CREATE YOUR OWN MIRACLES; DO WHAT YOU THINK YOU CANNOT DO ― Roy T. Bennett

The week began with a Dr's appointment to check on the status of her knee and arm. Dr Haws gave her the all clear and that she was fully healed. This was very uplifting news for Mom. Also, the UTI results are in and she doesn't have a UTI infection. Her fever and hallucinations are the result of her severe dehydration. This has been a battle with her since the beginning and I can't really tell you why. McCall came up with the idea to number several cups of water with a sharpie so that when we cycle through we can tell exactly how much she has had to drink. We sometimes have to have a little battle with her to keep her drinking :)

And now, for the miracles. If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. Mom...is up and walking with a walker. I went to visit after I had gotten back in town and saw her using her walker in the hallway. I almost tripped over myself. I asked her if she had been "set" there for when I walked in the door and she said, "are you kidding? I did this all myself!" I have never been more proud of my Mom. This is a result of her private care assistant, Andrew. The kid is amazing. He coached, motivated, and helped her get to this point.

Andrew has been a miracle himself. He has taken charge and almost forced Mom to "get up and get going". By himself he has motivated Mom to fight and put in the effort. It began with him sending everyone out of the room telling us that Mom will try to feed on our emotions for her. He also felt we made her anxious by being in the room while he would try to get her to sit up and stand. He said she wouldn't dare fight him or prey on his emotions :) Andrew has been able to get mom to scoot herself to the bottom of the bed on her own, stand with minimal help, and walk with her walker - unreal.

Because of the progress Mom has made, Dad was able to take her for her daily ride ALL BY HIMSELF. The magnitude of this can't be overstated. This is the first step in giving Mo a break and letting her body and mind prepare for the birth of the next grandchild.

As you can imagine, Andrew has earned this weeks shout out. On top of what he was able to accomplish with mom, he took her to get her nails done, took her to her Dr's appointment, and continually offers her encouragement. What would we have done if he hadn't come in to our lives? Thanks Andrew!
